High School Year: Freshman
History: A privileged little girl was what could describe Sakura's early life. Living in a very comfortable setting with two good incomes to support her, there was rarely anything she didn't get that she really wanted. Telescope? Done. Encyclopedia set? Done. Want the new barbie collection? We'll pre-order it for you. Not rich, but middle-class wasn't quite what you would say about the Haruno family. Mr.Haruno is a well respected scientist at his work, studying under the medicine field. Ever heard those 'studies show that...?' That was what he did. His boss gave him a house as one of his payments, so the benefits were worth a lot.
Sakura's mother came from a wealthy family, who owned two etiquette schools. Sakura went there for the weekends when she was younger, and for the summers before she started to go to Fushiyuka's School for the Gifted. Her entire childhood was based on pleasing two sides. One was her father, who expected her to be the best student of her year, and her mother who expected her to be a proper lady. Busy, busy, but she was happy for the most part. Her low self esteem, which was due to her mother, had caused her to be overly-sensitive to criticism, thus making her susceptible to bullying.
There were three people who meant a lot to her, and still did to this day. Ino brought the awkward, silent girl out into the world. When she got bullied and felt low, it was the blonde that took her under her wing and helped her gain confidence. Sakura may have been an only child, but she gained a sister. Speaking of siblings, there were two more people that Sakura befriended. Sasuke and Naruto, two completely opposite and unlikely people, but for a small period of time they meant something to each other. How it happened, it didn't really matter, though in the same way Sakura had come to see the two as brothers, in the least.
Something had to change, eventually Sakura had developed a crush on the resident cutie Sasuke, like most girls. Sakura was at that age where she was trying to figure herself out, and she was noticing just how much Ino was outshining her. The social queen that could do no wrong, if Ino was a rose then was she just the weeds taking up space? The older Sakura got, the more independent she wanted to be and by the time she found out Ino liked Sasuke too, she used that as an excuse to become a rival to her best friend.
Already a modest fangirl since 8-9, by 10 she was the ULTIMATE Sasuke fangirl. A more powerful, dominating personality, a high achieving student who was rivalled only by a few academically, outspoken and temperamental Sakura had finally come out of her shell, but was no longer that nice little girl an entire class could easily fall in love with. No, it seemed more people started to hate her than love her. Yet even still, her social networks were strong and she had some pretty good friends. 'Sides, you weren't stupid enough to mess with Sakura. She was starting to feel the stress build-up of having to meet too many expectations from both her father and mother, and now even what people came to expect of her from school. Teachers would be the ones wanting to push her the extra mile, her friends would depend on her for mostly everything, it was constant pressure day in day out.
So, naturally, Sakura had to repress all the anger and stress, try to mold herself into different people for different situations, and she came off fake half the time. Naruto? Before Sakura treated him like a human being, and now she treated him like crap. The stuff he did? She secretly enjoyed it, just like she had when she was younger, now she pretended like it was beneath her. Sasuke was plain annoyed with her, and Ino was still seen as a rival and the two constantly bickered.
Sakura, in short, had lost that innocence and kindness from when she was just a child. Responsibilities that were out of her hands kept piling up and there were days she was sick of it. Constantly fighting with her mom behind her father's back, she couldn't stand it, but there was one person who would always make her smile, one person who she worked for the hardest. Her father was the center of her world, and it was for him that she kept on going with her hectic life instead of giving up. Sure, she never got that 'I love you', but 'I'm proud of you' was it's equivalent. Daddy's little girl, that seemed to be the only thing she kept of her childhood.
Then, when she was 11, her father was killed in a drive by shooting. The effects on her were devastating. Suddenly, all she worked for seemed lost, and never before had Sakura been hit by tragedy like that. She was the naive little girl who lived inside a bubble, and that bubble was popped. After his funeral she barely ate, hardly did her school work and completely detached herself from the people around her.
It was raining hard one day, Sakura wanted to take a walk around the residential community for just awhile. She wasn't planning to run away or anything, and was already figuring out what to say when she would come back after a fight with her mother. She and a little boy ahead of her were walking their way, when suddenly it happened. It had caught the corner of her eye, a speeding truck. Goosebumps had raised on her with the speed it was going. 'Slow down, slow down...' He hadn't approached the stop light yet, but there was a terrible knot in her stomach. The little boy ahead of her, she couldn't stop staring at him. When she realized that there was no way the truck would stop before the light she had no time to think. She ran, adrenalin pumping. She didn't even know what she was doing, but there was simply no time. The truck had been going 110 km/h and when she had seen it one minute it was in the distance, the next it was colliding into her. Her arms wrapped around the little 8 year old boy and that was the last she knew before an unbelievable pain shot through her like electricity.
The damage was the equal to falling off a balcony on the 6th floor of an apartment building. The little boy was screaming by the time they had stopped skidding across the rode, barely avoiding the truck's tires to their body--instead their legs suffering that. He could not be spared damage and he was bleeding from both his legs and his arm had twisted in a weird way. Sakura was completely silent, her arms loose around him as she lay there in her limp body. There was no describing it, not only were her legs broken and bleeding but she was suffering a serious head wound, and her back and neck had suffered. When the ambulance came and put her on the stretcher, they weren't betting on her survival.
Her mother was called and she and the boy were rushed into the ER. The boy got three casts, Sakura got 6 hours worth of surgery where her life hung in balance. Turns out her back was in an awkward position, and had pushed into her chest. One of the bones in her rib cage was shattered, legs were broken, and she lost a lot of blood mostly due to skidding about two meters down the rode and the fact she was bleeding from her head.
She was incredibly lucky to be breathing by the end of it. She had saved a life--the boy would be dead no question, but her own was seriously jeopardized. The doctors told her mother the three extremes. One, they couldn't guarantee she wouldn't die in the next 24 hours or more. Two, if she did survive she would be paralyzed. Three, she could fall into a coma and wake up a vegetable. To a widowed wife, hearing this had caused the woman to break down in her sister's arms, who had come with her for support.
Sakura didn't wake up in the next two days, so the fear of #3 was in them. During that time the doctors were looking for specialists, Haruno-san was so desperate to keep her daughter she would sell her house and possessions just to pay for a miracle. She found one, in the hands of a young looking 50-year old woman. Tempted by the money, they had pulled Tsunade-sama out of her hiding place in a casino. First it was just to bring her in and take a look. By the time Tsunade had arrived Sakura had woken up, but was extremely disoriented. When they asked for things like her name and age she couldn't reply, not because she didn't know it but because she felt sick to her stomach and could barely keep awake.
Shizune was the one that persuaded Tsunade into helping with this case, reminding her of the money she could get in doing so. Just some advice, just a few exercices here and there... Who would think Tsunade would spend 2 and a half years working with Sakura.
It was when she received consciousness, but had barely any feeling in her body, that the two started to work. Sakura was moved into a rehabilitation center in Osaka, where she was isolated from everyone who knew her and focused on herself. Physically getting better was not nearly as hard as the emotional part. It was Tsunade that had pulled her out of her depression, and had motivated her into trying. The doctors told Tsunade that the chances of Sakura ever walking, or even living a normal life were slim to none. So the three; Tsunade, Sakura and Shizune worked together to prove them wrong.
It was an unbelievable journey for Sakura, especially since there was little to no contact with anyone except maybe her mother once in awhile. The truth was when Sakura was moved out of the hospital room many of her friends have kind of assumed her gone. Only a few close people knew of her progress, the rest heard she was forever a vegetable and moved to a ward far away. Considering how bad a state she was when they saw her, it wasn't a surprise. So Sakura's whole life at that point was getting it back. It was painful trying to walk and reteach her mind how to do ordinary things. Tsunade was not easy, but Sakura had grown fond of her and was extremely thankful to the both of them. She worked her body like never before, and had gotten full control of herself after two years. Beat that non-believers.
Sakura was almost fourteen when she was able to walk around and do things by herself, but she wasn't done yet. Then she had to constantly play sports and exercise with Tsunade while at the same time reveiwing her studies to prepare herself to get back to school. It was scary, and very hard, but Sakura grew so much that this time she was powerful in a completely different way. The girl who was thought to be a vegetable was playing hard-core volleyball against Tsunade-sama, and was probably stronger than most girls her age. A teenaged beauty and a mature young adult, Sakura was finally getting fitted for her new school uniform and packing her bags to go home and start highschool. When she stood in-front of Tsuande with her uniform, hair freshly cut and suitcase packed, she suddenly cried and ran into the older woman's arms, thanking her for everything.
Tsunade was modest, in her stern way. She told Sakura that she only helped push her, the rest the pink haired girl did on her own. When Doctors went to see her physical they were amazed, but concerned. Should she really go to school before running a lot of tests first? Tsunade had smiled, revealing that she was going to be the head of Konoha Highschool, with Shizune as a secretary, so if anything happened they would be right there. Sakura was pleased, and from Osaka they drove back to Tokyo and back to their neighborhood. Sakura had arrived pretty late, but her mother waited up and when she saw her daughter all grown up and walking there was another emotional moment. It felt weird to go back to her room, untouched after almost three years, and sleep in her own bed. Though she was very, very happy. She closed her eyes, preparing for one week of summer. Oh, how she'd surprise them with her arrival. She drifted off to sleep, dreaming about nothing in particular.
Personality:
Lil' Sakura was submissive and shy, an awkward girl who tended to hide her face behind a veil of pink. This gave a lot of people the image that she was ugly, and her lack of self confidence made her easy prey. Though there was no denying she was smart, in fact she was considered gifted by the age of 6 so they accepted her into a summer school program where she was pitted against kids just like her. Most Japanese children, like herself, really started schooling around the age of one. A 'preschool', where they would subtly teach the proper behaviour, start practising speech and subject them to things like the letters on blocks and sounds and colours. By four they were learning calligraphy. Sakura was a very fast learner, what took children a few years to learn she was already average in. Calligraphy was blown away, by three she knew half the symbols. When she was four she was taking ballet and etiquette with her mother, and the rest of the time devoted to her studies. Sakura learned the meaning of strict and it had created a need to succeed, if only to win her parents over,
Her preteen years were crazy. She was simply crazy, anyone can tell you that. She went from the sweet 9 year old girl to evil one at 10. She was a fangirl and an overachiever. Most called her bitch, but with grades and rep like hers she was respected.
During those years of hard work, Sakura as a teenager was very different. No longer a spazz, she was learning to appreciate the important things in her life. The thing that had drove her to put herself between a boy and a truck was the same drive that she had to succeed. Sakura knew who she was deep down inside, and she wanted to become a doctor so that she could save lives. Pressure and responsibilities were now viewed differently. No longer would she kill herself to try and please, she wants to be herself and work hard for what she believes in. She's mature, eons away from her bratty self. She is also more comfortable with herself, not self conscious or afraid. She'd step up, but she'd also back down. Sasuke isn't the center of her world anymore, even being rivals with Ino has lost it's touch. She's an achiever, she set herself a goal and she will meet it. Sakura has made sure she would not be behind when she enters school again, and looks forward to seeing everyone. Goes to show how much a person can change in their lifetime.
Another thing that's changed is her deep feelings are no longer worn on her sleeve. Although pulled out of depression, finally moving on from her father's death and growing stronger, that and the experience hasn't left her completely unscarred. Her heart is more guarded, which is why she can be seem even more violent then before. She gets emotional ever now and again but she's not the cry-baby drama queen she used to be. Mature, but on the flip side she's very reflective and thoughtful, and can sometimes appear distant and seclusive if there's something on her mind. Not completely perfect, but perfect was never really what she was.
Sample RP:
Wearing her school uniform, with her bags all packed up on her bed felt so odd yet at the same time, exhilarating. Isolation was not something she had liked, and she often dreamed of the day she'd be allowed back home. Yet now a nervous feeling creeped in, and thousands of things ran through her mind. She was warned that probably no one would be expecting her back, and people had come to their own conclusions about what happened to her. Her green eyes glanced over to the mirror, and a smile broke out over her face. Well, she'd just have to surprise them. Her mother had seen her now and again, the pink haired teen could still remember the first time she came here. To know that the woman would have had her last memory of her daughter yelling and fighting, should things have gone wrong, made the meeting very emotional indeed. Not as emotional as it would get when she came home at last, though.
It had bothered her that they were still doubting she was okay, the doctors seemed to believe that any moment now Sakura would drop down and revert back to what she was at the beginning of all this. Yeah right, hardly a scratch was left and she could play sports of all things, something that had alluded her capabilities before. She was better than okay, she was perfect.
A cheeky wink was sent to her reflection. She looked good in her uniform, now if only she could find something for her hair... Really, it looked pretty cut short but it needed to be styled a bit.
"I think this would go well with it." A familiar voice at the door, caused her to turn right back around, a curious expression on her face. Tsunade was standing at the door with Shizune-senpai beside her, and she was holding a faint lilac colored headband. The blonde entered the room, passing it into Sakura's slender hands.
With some sisterly help from Shizune and a comb, Sakura put it on and was satisfied with how much more alive her hair looked, the layered ends really adding volume and shape. It was crazy, this was all suddenly happening so fast. Whoever thought the idea of going to school would be so... So...
"Tsk, the boys will be so distracted by you, I hope they remember to control themselves." Tsunade teased from behind her, causing the teen to laugh.
"If they don't, I'll just have to remind them." This caused a grin to spread across the beautiful woman's face.
"I was worried about that." Shizune couldn't help but agree, Tsunade-sama managed to spawn herself within Sakura, and both of them now had some interesting traits. No wonder the woman had taken to liking this girl, not when they reminded each other of themselves. More Tsunade to Sakura, of course. She placed a hand on her hip, tawny eyes glancing across the suitcases.
"All packed? I won't drive all the way back here if you've forgotten something. We need to hurry, before they discover Tonton." As if on cue the little pig gurgled from beneath the bed, before jumping into Shizune's spread arms. There was a pause, Tsunade watched Sakura's eyes drift before placing a hand to her shoulder. "Hey, what's with the face? You're finally going home, don't go senile on me now..."
Sakura stared at herself blankly for a moment then suddenly turning around, launching herself into Tsunade and startling both women and Tonton as she did. Her head was buried near Tsunade's shoulder, her arms at the woman's waist. The large bosom between them didn't seem to take away from the moment as the older woman stood there, starting down at the teen with a shocked, but otherwise unreadable expression.
Slowly, Sakura lifted her head, a few tears had escaped their watery prison and lined her cheeks, but there was a small smile there that made it seem alright. "Thank you." That's what she said first, tilting her head and letting it rest upon a soft space a she hugged her shishou. "It's thanks to you I can go back as I am now."
Tsunade was not the kind of woman who was known for showing kindness, and it was her silence that gave away that she was touched by this, though Tsunade didn't refrain from grabbing Sakura's shoulders and pulling her away with a hard look. "No. Don't give me that." This brought confusion into the younger girl's eyes, causing her to let go completely. "This was you who pushed yourself to get better, your body that's working fine, your mind that caught up with the others. Give yourself the credit, don't act like I did everything for you. Otherwise those idiots will never let you get into school, even with me there."
Sakura nodded, unable to stop from giggling at her choice of words. Now now, those doctors were just looking out for her. They weren't idiots, just a little annoying... That's all. A few of them saved her too, right? One day she'd return the favour to some other person too. If she could do half of what Tsunade-shishou and Shizune-san did for her, then damn she was going to make one fine doctor.
"Alright, we're wasting time here. Let's move it!" Suitcases nearly thrust at her by the big-bosomed lady, Shizune and Sakura glanced at each other. Sakura's lips curled in a small, knowing smirk.
"There wouldn't happen to be a casino anywhere near here, would there? Or some gambling spot maybe...?" Tonton snorted and Shizune hung her head.
"No doubt I will be writing IOUs later. Why else would she be in such a hurry?" So, despite the crazy speeds Tsunade was insisting on going, the ride home was rather fun.
