Asuma was startled by the sound as he moved his face forward fast. It was just an automatic reaction. He just didn't want her to see him half asleep in her home.
He was surprised though as he felt something soft against his lips. He slowly opened his eyes. The first thing he saw was red. Now what could be so red and yet so familiar? His eyes widened as he came to realisation and he blinked one time to make sure. And yeah it was true alright...his lips were against those of Kurenai.
He blushed hard before pulling back. "I'm sorry!" He exclaimed grinning nervously, looking anywhere but to her. "You just startled me. It wasn't my intention. I'm sorry!"
Oh god...what had he done!

She blushed. She could feel the blood rushing to her cheeks as she realised...
Asuma kissed her. He kissed her. Asuma kissed her...And Shizune? What about his date with her?
That moment of bliss. And then it just stopped...but she never wanted it to end.

Asuma steadied his breathing as he looked down to the ground. He had just kissed Kurenai...his crush...his love...It may not have been intentional, but he had done it nonetheless. And he had to say that it felt good. This would probably be the only time in his life that this would happen.
Slowly, he turend to the woman again when he was sure that he was easy again. He had heard no reaction from her, so maybe she was so disgusted and angry at him that she was just ignoring him. But when he saw her face, he was surprised. She was completely red. Did this mean....that she liked it?! Nah, it must have been out of embarrasment and anger.
He smiled nervously and scratched the back of his head. "Well, that was interesting...." He said grinning. He then turned to the cups and smiled. "Thanks for the coffee, Kurenai."

She almost growled.
"Thanks for the coffee..."
Shizune taught her some of this male language thing...it meant something like 'thanks but no thanks'. And 'well that was interesting'? What did that mean?
What was he implying? That he was going to leave?
Or that he didn't like her?

Asuma gave the woman a weird look.
Just why was she acting so weird all of a sudden? She has been out of it since the accident. Is she making plans to kill him or something or is she just lost in thoughts.
In any case, the coffee was getting cold. He placed his hand on her shoulder and smiled gently. "Kurenai, your coffee is getting cold." He then grabbed his own cup and took a sip from it. "Wow, this is great. Best I've ever had. You're great at making coffee Kurenai!"

She shot him a suspicious glance.
...'You're great at making coffee'...what did that mean? Kurenai was sure that Shizune had explained this one to her once before.
Hmmm, there ought to be a book written about it. So women could actually understand what was going through men's minds when they said something.
"You're just saying that." Kurenai said, trying to be modest.

Asuma gave the woman a true smile. "No, I'm serious. I wouldn't mind drinking this coffee every day!" He exclaimed grinning, before he realised what he said. Oh no...now she was going to think that he was being pervy or something if he knew something about women.
He quickly tried to change the subject. "So, ready for the new schoolyear?"
He looked into his empty cup as he awaited her reply.

It was hard trying to understand men. Well, Iruka was out of the question, Kurenai could read him like one of the books that he lent her. Perhaps it was just Asuma...because he was difficult like that.
And the changes of subject! She could barely keep up.
"No, I'm scared."
She felt embarassed discussing this after they had just kissed about three minutes ago.
Kurenai wondered if Asuma felt the same.

Asuma raised an eyebrow. She was scared....No matter how ackward the situation might have been at the moment. He just couldn't let the woman be like that. He loved her and hated to her those words. He just had to control himself.
He slowly placed a hand on her shoulder and sighed. "What are you scared about, Kurenai?" He asked looking her in those pretty red eyes. He just loved those eyes, just as he loved everything about her.

"Just...them." She answered, and it all just came out.
She was crying. She was blathering on about her fears and she was crying. Shizune told her that men didn't like it when you cried on them, because they didn't know how to deal with it. But her mother said that men preferred the 'damsel-in-distress' mode.
"I'm afraid that they won't listen, and they won't like me and that they just-"
And she went on...and on.
Some of the stuff she couldn't even believe that she was telling anyone...let alone Asuma....

She was crying...
Kurenai was crying...
What was he supposed to do. He didn't know how to handle a crying woman. And this wasn't just a woman. This was his secret love. Damn, what was he supposed to do?
But as he heard the woman go on and on, he did the only thing that came to mind. He turned to her and pulled her to his chest, letting her cry there as he wrapped his arms around her smaller body.
He didn't even think about how good this felt....He just needed to calm her down and be there for her. "It's alright, Kurenai. It's alright. Just let everything out."

"I've already let it out..." She sniffed, and groaned.
But she liked this.
Kurenai felt safe. Like she was being looked after.
She snuggled up to Asuma's chest and was just about to place her arms around his to offer her a more comfortable position until...
She froze.
Shizune...?

Asuma felt good holding her like this now that she had calmed down a bit. It was like she was made for him to hold. When she froze though, his eyes widened. Iruka!
He quickly let her go as he looked away from her. "Sorry if I held on to you too long. I...I just wanted to make sure you were okay." He exclaimed as he looked towards the ground. Oh man...she had to be thinking that he was some kind of freak.
He slightly moved away from her as he grabbed his pen once again. "Well, guess we should finish this, eh." He exclaimed smiling nervously.

"Yeah...finish...this..."
Was he thinking about Shizune? What if he forgot that it was her and pretended it was Shizune?
Kurenai picked up her paper and sighed. There was no way she was going to get any of this done while she was this...distracted. She half-hearted drew another 'x' next to a question.
Instead she reflected on what had happened.
Asuma came here, She and Asuma marked stuff. She went to get a coffee and tried to frighten him. Which completely backfired as he kissed her (which was wrong because he asked her best friend out yesterday. And she broke down and started crying when he asked her a simple question.
Everything was going from bad to worse.

What was wrong with her? Looking at her direction, he couldn't help but feel lost at the moment.
Asuma just didn't understand. She seemed so close and so distant at the same time. Was it something he said or something he had done. So she was disgusted with him after all. Maybe because he had pulled her close to him? Yeah, that had to be it.
She already had someone else on her mind, so of course she wouldn't want to be held by him. Why wasn't Iruka around when you needed him...
And he already had a date planned with Shizune as well, so he shouldn't even be thinking about the woman next to her. It would only make it more painful later on.
He sighed as he contuined to use his red marker. It was just sickening how bad the students were at math. He was sure that he needed to change his way of teaching into as easier structure if he wanted these kids to make it through math class.
A big smile came upon his face though when he saw that there were no more tests left for him. He was done! He let out a big sigh as he dropped the red marker on the table. "Finally...I was getting crazy because of all the bad grades I had to give these kids." He said, before turning to the woman next to him.
He could see that she was far from done. "Uhm...need some help?"
