"That would be great!" She smiled in an effort to show him how happy she was.
She dumped three marking schemes onto his lap. All of them were of reasonable weight.
"If you just stick to these for the tests and I mark the essays then I'm sure I'll be finished in no time! And thank you so much for helping me because I just know that I would have been useless without you and I'm sure if there was some way I could help in the future I would be glad to do it."
You're babbling, Kurenai She reminded herself.

Asuma smiled softly as the heavy marking scemes were put on his lap. She seemed really thankful. It had been a while since her saw a beautiful smile like that.
He shook his head after her comments. "Don't worry, Kure-chan. It is my pleasure. I only do it because it want to." He said before he realised that he had used her special nickname. Oh dear, that wasn't supposed to happen.
He quickly turned to the science tests and just hoped that she hadn't heard it.

"I only do it because I want too."
"Ugh! You are so cute!" She gave Asuma a quick hug and after her face went through several different shades of tomato she died inside.
Her Inner Fangirl had completely taken over! She, Yuuhi Kurenai, a Science teacher to the ignorant, of all people should not allow her fangirlishness to get the better of her. She could be strong! She could resist the urge to glomp Asuma.
...no.
Her speech was relatively stupid when you considered the fact that she had already succumbed to the Inner Fangirl and glomped him.
"Sorry...it was impulse..." She mumbled and went back to the utterly depressing job of being a teacher.

Cute...?
Asuma blushed deeply as Kurenai gave him a hug. What just happened? Did he miss something? Or had he just seen too much? He has almost never seen this side of the red eyed woman before. The only times this side of her came out was when she was being fangirlish about something.
But...that couldn't be the case here...
Right...?
He turned to the woman and could see that she was blushing as well. She said that it was on a impuls. Did that mean...nah...don't be silly Asuma. She probably just thought that it was Iruka who was sitting next to her.
He turned back to the test on his lap as he laughed softly. "It's alright. It's not like I mind you hugging me...." He said as he closed his eyes for a moment. He knew that he was lying, but he just wanted to say it. "We're friends right~"
He sighed as she had to use his red marker once again.

"Yeah..." Kurenai muttered, drawing a 'x' and scribbling a quick comment.
This was getting awkward. It was just too difficult to accept that he would never be hers. He loved Shizune, didn't he? She loved Iruka, didn't she? And yet she wanted to kiss him; to be kissed by him, and more than that. So much more...so much more...
Asuma had such a soothing presence, Kurenai noticed. He made her feel happy.
But...she couldn't...love...him...

It became quiet after that...too quiet...
Asuma was surprised with her slow answer. Didn't she see him as a friend? Well, she liked Iruka, right? Or didn't she? Maybe he had interpretet everything the wrong way. Maybe there was still a chance. He didn't know anymore at the moment....
He put down the work as he finished the last one. It wasn't his department, but somehow marking Kurenai's student's work was nice as well. It was getting boring to mark the same thing over and over. Somehow he had finished it without paying attention. Maybe he had built some kind of teacher-instinct or someting during his years as a teacher.
He looked towards her and smiled genly. She looked so cute when she was thinking. And this gave him a bit of hope. Maybe he should just give it a try. Maybe he should try getting close to her, even if it meant risking more. You can't win by doing nothing, right? Yeah, that was what he was going to do.
He made his way over on the couch in a slow manner and sat down right next to her. A small blush came upon his face because of the small distance between them. "I'm already done with mine, so maybe I can give you a hand." He said smiling.
Maybe he could still win her heart...

There was always going to be something, wasn't there? A gently flickering candle of hope had to be there...even if the light at the end of the tunnel was switched off...
But it was just going to be...like this.
Her sneaking little looks at him in all his god-like demeanor via her perphiral vision. When he'd kissed her, there weren't the 'sparks' you were told to expect in books. When he'd kissed her, it was like a whole fireworks display was going on in her stomach. Kurenai knew that Asuma was The One. The One...but there was also The Two as well.
The red-eyed woman was understanding with deadlines, could accept that students were complete and utter dimwits, felt that there was more to a person than what appeared to be going on around them.
And if she gave up, if she was charitable and let Shizune have him? If she let Shizune have Asuma?
All of her life, she'd given up. When someone didn't absorb knowledge into their sponge-like brains that were too busy thinking about Coldplay, she didn't try. She didn't win the 50 metres when she was five because she already thought that she would come last. She was used and manipulated as a person because she looked like she didn't care.
And this would be the end.
Asuma was her life.
"Y-yeah. Thanks a lot."
The rush of emotions when she saw him, when she briefly brushed past him in the hall.
She was just going to let someone else just take her Asuma from her. She could step back and let that happen.
But she loved Iruka.
What about Iruka...?
He was handsome, he was intellectual, he loved her. And she was stringing him along, taking him for granted, settling for so-called second-best when he was the best thing that had ever happened to her.
Everything was spinning around, a kaleidoscope of jumbled-up memories, words and promises...
OoC: I decided to put Kure-chan as red! Uhh, I won't go back and do previous posts red too, but maybe, when I'm bored...
I'm so SORRY Asu-chan!!! You waited too long for this, but I made it extra-lengthy for you.

Now this was the way he liked it. Sitting right next to the woman he wanted to share his life with. Just feeling her arm brushing against his own sometimes, got him all flustered. He tried to hide this fact, but he knew that he was doing a bad job. Somehow he just knew that she was the one.
He liked Shizune, he couldn't deny that. She was very pretty, she had a nice and gentle personality and he could laugh with her. But he just didn't get butterflies in his stomach by seeing her smile, he didn't blush when she looked his way. He just wasn't...in love with her.
As he was helping her with her work, he couldn't help but looking at her face once in a while. Lying the marker on his lap, he smiles as he saw her pretty face. She seemed to be completely lost in thought and she had only given him one short sentence as an answer. It had been like this all day. Not really saying much to each other. It seemed like she was nervous, just like he was. But was that because she was in doubt of her own feelings as well...or because she just thought that this whole situation was ackward.
Well, at least she hadn't pushed him away. That was a good sign. There was still hope.
Without looking, he moved his hand towards his lap to get the marker again, when he suddenly came in contact with something else. He raised his eyebrow as he looked down and was surprised that it wasn't just something. It was Kurenai's hand!
He quickly pulled back his hand and grabbed the marker. "S-sorry." He exclaimed softly, while he looked away from her to hide his flustered face. "I wasn't looking,"
How did his hand get way over there? Did it happen unconsciously, because he couldn't stop thinking about her. He liked the feeling that he got when he touched her though. It made his heart go crazy. He needed to calm down. He didn't want the woman next to her to feel uncomfortable.
He quietly looked down at his work as he awaited the woman's reaction. Maybe he could learn more about her this way.

It was like electricity...and it shocked her back into the real world.
Asuma always made her feel so alive and full of energy.
All of these happy moments were filed into her memory for later use. But there was just that awkwardness all over again, from the second she met him she'd turned into a blushing, spineless puddle...hanging onto his every sentence discreetly, so he wouldn't notice.
"I've been watching..."
The song popped into her head randomly, uncalled for. And it wouldn't go away.
"...I've been waiting..."
Her cheeks were dusted with pink as she avoided his eyes; the ones that could see through her, see past her. "It's okay." Kurenai mumbled shakily, she was on thin ice and was waiting to fall into the freezing water.
"...in the shadows of my time..."
If anyone asked Kurenai, her hand reached out of its own accord. She did nothing, she would have sworn. Her fingers brushed his cheek, she could have protested, and began to stroke it.
Scratch that last bit, her subconscious would have shouted, as it was the only bit of her actually full functioning at the time...
...you did it all on purpose.

W-what...?
He hadn't expected this....
He had noticed that she had become extremely quiet and he had seen that she had been blushing as well and he had been pretty surprised with that. After hearing her reply, he had even started wondering. It sounded like she was indeed nervous.
But what happened after that had shocked him. He had felt something on his cheek while he was looking away from her and had slowly turned her way. But he would have never expected it to be her hand.
His eyes slowly widened as his face became slightly red. He could feel himself heating up. W-what was she doing? Not that he was complaining though, he loved it. He had been dreaming about this for a long time. He looked her in the eyes and could see that she had a faraway-look in her eyes. What was going on?! Did she even know what she was doing?
He slowly brought a hand to his covered cheek and placed his hand over her own, trying to get her attention. This alone sent another jolt of energy through his body. "K-Kure-chan...are you okay?" He asked giving her a shock filled with surprise.

"...I've been searching..."
She retracted her hand instantly. Suddenly, all Kurenai wanted to do was curl up into a ball and quietly die. Her red eyes didn't know where to look, but knew that Asuma's face wasn't going to help at all--she couldn't find any answers there.
"...I've been living..."
Her mind drifted back to that Sport's Day, when she was five. Anko won. She'd been jealous. Green with envy...wishing that she'd received the rosette with '1st' inscribed carefully onto it, taken the certificate with her name on it.
She'd smiled blankly then, unable to show her feelings, bottling them up and putting them somewhere else, where it didn't affect her.
Asuma's brown eyes were boring holes into her facade, taking down her protective barriers and stripping her of her false world of pretend. Because that was what she had been doing for the last ten uneventful years of her life: pretending. Making up everything how she wanted it to be, how she pretended it to be.
I don't know, was what she wanted to say. I don't know anything anymore, Asuma, but I think that I love you.
"I think so..."
"...for tomorrows all my life."

He was taken back when she pulled back her hand like that...it seemed like she had been out of it after all. He could feel the warmth leave his body when her hand was removed from his cheek. He was about to sigh when the woman decided to speak up.
I think so. I think so?! What kind of answer is that...?
As the woman was blushing and hiding herself, he decided to look closer. There had to be something. He could see the look of surprise and embarrasment in her pretty red eyes. But he could see something else in them as well...something deeper. She was trying to hide her eyes from him, but she couldn't hide her feelings. Something was wrong. He knew it.
He knew that it was time for action now and didn't hesitate to reach out with his hand. He gently took her hand in his own and gave her a serious look, although he was slightly blushing as well because of the contact. He was very straightforward now, but he needed to know what was going on.
When he noticed that she was looking, he started. "Kure-chan...what's wrong. I can see that there's something. You're hiding something...Please tell me, okay..."

idon'tlovehimidon'tloveidon'tlovehim she wanted to scream. It had taken her this long to realise. Iruka was never going to be enough...not when Asuma was standing by her side. Iruka was wonderful. Asuma was everything, he was the whole world.
Kurenai could never tell Asuma. She couldn't look him in the eye because she was afraid of what he'd see there. For now, she would have to have Iruka, the funny, sweet teacher that she'd loved as a friend.
"We can't do this." She whispered, hoping it was quiet enough for him not to hear. "We can't do this; not while you have Shizune and I have Iruka."
It's not right... She thought. I don't want to say this...
Asuma was strong-willed, with his thick dark hair and tan skin. And his chocolate coloured eyes that seemed to suck everything into them, that seemed to know everything.
